Non-indigenes takeover bayelsans employment opportunities-Igodo .Commissioner collapse at Ministerial Briefing in Bayelsa

A former Head of Service in Bayelsa State, Dr. (Mrs) Josphine Igodo, today, raised an alarm alleging that non-indigenes have taken over state and federal employment opportunities meant for the indigenes of the state through fraudulent practices such as impersonation of Indigeneship.

Speaking as chairperson of the occasion at the Inter-Ministerial/Agency briefing at Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, as part of the activities to mark the 6^th Anniversary of the Restoration Government, Dr Igodo urged indigenes of the state to strive hard to curb the trend to pave way for the unemployed youths of the state to be gainfully employed.

 She asserted emphatically that the indigenes were all partakers of the trend thereby enhancing systematic failure in governance.

 Igodo pleaded with the people to send their children to school and not to also write examinations for them to enable them excel in their education career.

 She warned the youths and leaders of the state not to issue indigeneship certificate to non-indigenes or sell our scholarship to non-indigenes to deny our people’s opportunities to achieve self-reliance.

 On the Ministry of Special Projects, Igodo charged it to award contract to good contractors to avoid abandoned projects, stressing the need for the Ministry to curb the syndrome of awarding contracts to contractors who will collect mobilizations and abandoned project.

 In his opening remarks, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson highlighted the significance of the Ministry of Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as the Ministry of Special Projects.

 Mr. Iworiso-Markson stressed the need for the people to show serious concern about what was giving in their various communities in order to avert crisis and move the communities forward.

Presenting the scorecard of his ministry, the Commissioner for Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Saviour Ibegi enumerated the achievements of his ministry from 2014 to date, which include settlement of dispute to enthrone peace in the communities.

 However, today’s programme ended abruptly as the Commissioner for Special Project, Chief Fred Obua who supposed to present his ministry ‘scorecard along with his Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs counterpart, could not due to unforeseen health challenge at the ceremony, and was taken away for medical treatment.
