INEC receives commendation over conduct of 2019 general elections in Bayelsa
The
Director General of Magens Agency for Sustainable Democracy and Good Governance
(MASDAGG), Mr M. O Inegba has commended the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) for conducting credible, free and fair Presidential and
National Assembly elections in Bayelsa state.

Mr Inegba made the commendation while
exchanging views with newsmen in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state over INEC
performance in the last 2019 general election in the state.
According to him INEC has performed
creditably well and deserves commendations for exhibiting true commitment to
ensure free and fair Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state
devoid of intimidations, rigging and change of elections results in favour of
one political party or the other.
Inegba said emphatically that the electorates
in Bayelsa state voted candidates of their choice and not political parties,
pointing out that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives
Congress (APC) won the National Assembly’s election
in the state according to the credible candidates they have presented during the
elections.
He noted that the All Progressives Congress
(APC) won the seat of Bayelsa East Senatorial District and the House of Representatives
seats in Southern Ijaw and Brass Local government areas of the state because of
the credible candidates the party has presented and the electorates massively
cast their votes for them during the 2019 general election.
Inegba also said PDP won the Senatorial
seats for Bayelsa Central and West as well as the House of Representatives
seats for Ogbia, Yenagoa/Kolokuma and Sagbama/Ekeremor owing to the credible
candidates the party has presented during the elections.
He cleared the air that the state does not
belong to one political party but the electorates exercise their franchise
according to the candidates of their choice.

asserted emphatically that the Presidential and National Assembly’s elections in the state is credible, free and fair noting that
it is the most credible elections conducted in the state since the return to
democratic rule from 1999 to date.
He appealed to media organizations in the
country to adhere strictly to the ethics of journalism profession to enhance
democracy in the nation which he described as the best government for the
people, and enjoined them not to propagate misleading information to achieve
selfish gains at the detriments of the electorates who have exercise their
voting rights during the elections.
According to him publishing misleading information
which has no atom of truth for selfish gains may cause great harm to the
nascent democracy of the country.

commended the various media organizations in the country for their selfless
service to the nation and urged them to maintain the tempo.
