Jebba commends Governor Diri’s unprecedented performance in his first 100 days in office

    The Counsel to the Government of Bayelsa State, Mr Joseph Olodiama Jebba has described Governor Douye Diri’s achievements in his first 100 days in office as unprecedented, commendable and worthy of emulation.

   Mr Jebba made the remark in a chat with Global Overseer Newspaper Editor in his office in Yenagoa.

  The sage stated emphatically that Governor Diri deserves applaud from all well meaning and patriotic indigenes of the state taking in to cognizance of all the things he had seen happening in the state since its creation before now.

    He asserted without mincing words that the present administration led by Governor Diri is desirous of improving the state, pointing out that the basic thing one has to consider in any government is the people.

    Jebba added that a government where the people are crying, weeping and lamenting that government will not be seen as a government no matter whichever structure and all that they have made devoid of smiles in the faces of the people.

   He expresses enthusiasm that there are smiles in the faces of the people of the state within the 100 days in office of the present administration of the state led by the pragmatic, visionary and peoples-oriented Governor, Senator Diri.

    Noting that the present administration attached public interest above personal gains, he said Governor Douye Diri within the one hundred days in office, apart from ensuring regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions as at when due, had also taking adequate steps to pay pending salaries and allowances owed workers while gratuities that were pending since 2011 are gradually paid every month on inception to office.

    The gesture, he said has boosted the economy of the state, pointing out that without regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions the economy of the state is dead since the state is a civil service state and the state government is the only company existing in the state that all business activities and the people depend to live.

    “Well taking antecedent of what has happened in the state before today, I will say without mincing words that this government is desirous of improving Bayelsa state.

   The basic thing one has to consider in any government is the people. A government where the people are crying, weeping and lamenting, that government will not be seen as a government no matter whatever structure and all that they have made.

   One hundred days in government that is coming up on Saturday, the first thing and the first happiness I as a person has is the fact that there are smiles in the faces of people right now comparing to what was obtainable before.

      And so if there are smiles been achieved within one hundred days, I think that is the most important thing a government should achieve.

   I will give kudos to this government as far as human being that is the focus of every government they have seen brightness in their faces including me who is a civil servant,” he stated.

   Mr Jebba disabused inordinate insinuations at some quarters saying that prompt payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and gratuities are statutory obligations of government and should not be recorded as achievements saying that is incorrect.

   “Well for me, I will clearly disabuse the minds of such people. I will clearly say that, that is not correct. When you talk of a government mean the overall development of government. What is overall development? Every sector of the government must have light. That is the overall development of a government.

   When someone is bent on building houses who are the people to inherit the houses without simultaneous development in other areas? When every other area is dead and you see government building houses, for me it is not good enough.

   Where other sectors are also moving forward developing in line with infrastructural development then that is seen to be moving forward. So, to me without mincing words I will not agree to such people. As far as there are other areas, other sectors are receiving light; infrastructural development definitely will also receive light in the state. That is my thinking,”

  On the decisions taken by the state government to prevent the COVID 19 outbreak in the state, Mr. Jebba said they were taking for the common good of the people.

  He observed that there is balance development going on in the state under the present administration and expressed optimism that the tempo should be maintained for the overall interest of the people.

   Mr Jebba urged the state government to see continuous putting smiles in the faces of the people as its number one priority to moving the state forward.

   He commended the Civil Service for doing its best working with the present administration to achieve its set goals.
