Media Group confers Prestigious Award on Senator Dickson over Exceptional Achievements

An apex media organization in the core of the Niger Delta Region of the country under the aegis of Bayelsa Federated Newspaper Publishers Association (BAFENPA) has conferred prestigious award as the Pillar and Voice of Ijaw Nation on the former Governor of the state and Senator Representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson over his exceptional achievements in his eight years’ tenure as governor.

According to the organization, the outstanding achievements of the “Restoration Administration” led by Senator Dickson, has left a very challenging task for succeeding administrations, predominantly in the area of infrastructure, peace building and education, pointing out that the award was designed to appreciate his excellent performance and to encourage him to do more in his service to humanity.
“And if the thoughts of people should be directed to the essentials of democracy and furthermore on the living exponents of the principle of collective and representative government, which in the real sense is leadership as well as responsiveness and accountability, then it is of the essence that a man who stood clearly for his people and the development of their territory such as His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Henry Seriake Dickson deserve encouragement to spur him to do more”, he stated.
He expressed the determination of the organization to continue identify individuals and corporate organizations whose drive is aimed at developing society and who have proved themselves worthy in carrying out their official functions, particularly in the area of infrastructural development as well as human capacity, and peace building and education.
He noted that across the various states of Nigeria and even outside the shores of it, there have been numerous cases of undue arrest and protracted incarceration of media practitioners, particularly in the hands of political actors, privileged celebrities and security agencies, but he pointed out that
under the eight years’ reign of His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as governor of Bayelsa State, there was commendable freedom of the press as the media was independent in investigating and publishing its stories.
Responding after his conferment with the prestigious award, Senator Dickson called on the people of Ijaw ethnic Nationality irrespective of political leanings to unite and work as inseparable entity to achieve set goals, stressing that if there is time, Ijaw Nation needs unity, it is now.
Senator Dickson expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman and members of the Bayelsa Federated Newspaper Publishers Association for finding him worthy for the meritorious award owing to his modest contributions of the development of the state.
The Senator who dedicated his award to his Restoration Government team called on the media to support the present administration in the state, stressing that if government does well the state does well.
He also called for peace in all the communities of the local government areas, noting that peace was a pre-requisite for development.
Senator Dickson maintained that on his inception to office as Governor, he met an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N60 Million but his administration intensified efforts to generate N1.2 billion per month, adding that there are states that generate an internal Revenue of N15 billion to N20 billion per month.
Senator Dickson commended the members of the Restoration Government who joined him to work devotedly and tirelessly during the 6years economic recession to leave behind enduring legacies for the people of the state.
