Jubilation Ongoing In Bayelsa: - As Assembly Confirms 13 Commissioner Nominee

Jubilation is ongoing in Bayelsa state, the core of the Niger Delta Region, as the Bayelsa State House of Assembly on Thursday screened and confirmed 13 out of the 14 Commissioner nominees sent to the House by Senator Douye Diri, governor of the state.

Earlier, in the morning hours of Thursday before the commencement of their screening, there was heavy traffic jam along Imgbi axis of Chief Melford Okilo Expressway owing to the large turnout to witness the exercise.

Although, more nominees are expected to be sent to the Assembly for screening and Confirmation, but Journalists in Bayelsa state are optimistic that the Governor will not forget to include a professional journalist in the next list of nominees to be submitted to serve as Commissioner for Information to give them a sense of belonging in the Prosperity Government.

The 14 commissioner nominees forwarded to the Assembly include three former assembly members and eight immediate past commissioners.

The immediate past commissioners include Moses Teibowei (Work and Infrastructure), Biriyai Dambo (Attorney General of Justice), Maxwell Ebibai (Finance), Dr Emelah Gentle (Education), Brodrick Preye (Special Duty East), and Dr Ebieri Jones (Mineral Resources).

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon Daniel Igali who is also a nominee, was absent, while the immediate Past Chief Whip of the House, Hon (Mrs) Koku Ebiuwou Obiyai was asked to bow and leave.

Others were George Flint, Komuko Akari Kharin, Perepuighe Biewari, Peter Afagha, Mrs Elizabeth Bidei and a former council chairman, Michael Magbisa.

Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly presided over the plenary session.
