Bayelsa Assembly urges NEMA, AGIP, Shell to provide relief materials for Biseni clan

    As Biseni Clan in Yenagoa Local Government Area has been devastated by storm and posed the people to extreme untold hardship, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in its plenary session yesterday, passed a resolution urging the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediate send relief materials to ameliorate the deplorable conditions of the people at the clan.

    The State House of Assembly also enjoined the State Emergency Management Agency as well as Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) to send relief materials to alleviate the unbearable conditions of over 332 people suffering in Biseni Clan.

   The Resolution which was moved by the Member Representing Yenagoa Constituency III, Hon. Gentle Emelah and seconded by Hon. Bernard Kenibai, Member Representing Sagbama Constituency II which formed part of the documents of the House, also called on the state Ministry of Power to mobilize to site to restore electricity supply to the clan to curb the current blackout in the area.

    Moving the motion, Hon. Gentle Emelah lamented that the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NOAC) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) are yet to pay attention to the displaced people to ameliorate the extreme hardship facing them, their host communities. He stressed the need they should consider as matter of  urgent to come to the aid of the suffering people of the clan in line with their corporate social responsibilities.

    He added that the storm also devastated economic trees and food crops such as plantain plantations among others and brought the people into tears and sorrow.
