Starvation, hardship takes over many families in Bayelsa as Banks close down operation .Buhari, CBN Governor urged to prevail- Group

   There is ongoing starvation and unbearable hardship in Bayelsa state the core of the Niger Delta region as commercial banks operating in the state unanimously close down operations thereby denying several customers to have access to their accounts to withdraw money to meet up their daily needs.

   The scenario aggravated today Tuesday as several customers who went to their various banks returned home with nothing as the situation become helpless.

   Global Overseer press crew in a chat with some staff of the banks operating in the state who spoke on condition of anonymity blamed the scenario on order from their bank’s headquarters arising from Corona virus pandemic.

   It was observed that some of the banks were running skeletal operations through the ATM noting that an individual cannot withdraw reasonable amount of money as he or she wants.

  But it is sad to note that the bulk of the customers who are not operating with ATM went back home with empty hands to continue with the hunger that has been ravaging their families since last week Friday.

  Some of them according to our findings need money to address health needs of patients in the hospitals but banks refused them have access to their legitimate money.

  The Banks visited includes First Bank of Nigeria PLC, Access Bank, Zenith Bank, Polaris Bank Limited, Sterling Bank, GTB, UBA and Union Bank among others.

But customers were many at First Bank, Access Bank and Union Bank than others when we toured round the state capital, Yenagoa.

 

   It was further observed that even most of the customers who have the ATM Card too could not have access to their money as the situation looks hopeless and bleak.

   Commenting on the situation which calls for immediate attention before healthy and innocent citizens died over the corona virus, which is not existing in the state, the Coordinator of Save Nigeria for Economic Woes Corruption and Hardship (SNEWCH), Comrade Mac-Inegba Robinson appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele to prevail on the management of Commercial Banks operating in Bayelsa state  to commence operation in order to alleviate the hardship and the hunger affecting customers.
