Royal Father Confers NDDC Boss Prestigious Chieftaincy Title Over His Exceptional Leadership Qualities, Development Strides

 *NDDC Pledges to Complete Amassoma Shore Protection Project

The Ebenanaowei of Ogboin Kingdom, His Royal Majesty King Oweipa Jones-Ere III, has conferred a prestigious Chieftaincy Title to the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku as “EBE-KORIWENIOWEI OF OGBOIN CLAN” in recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities and development strides in the region within the short period in office.

 King Oweipa Jones-Ere III made the conferment as part of activities marking the celebration of his 20th Coronation Anniversary on the throne on Saturday, at the Ogboin-tu Royal Palace in Ogbopina Pele, Amassoma, Bayelsa State.

The royal father described Ogbuku’s leadership in NDDC as impactful and remarkable. He commended him for initiating the “Light Up the Niger Delta Project.”

 The monarch decried the continued destruction of the environment in the Ijaw communities, lamenting: “We are faced with the degradation of our environment on a scale that has never been. The forests that have sheltered and fed us, is being felled at an unprecedented rate. The rivers that raised us and made us Izon are being polluted.”

He emphasized the need for collective action to protect the forests and rivers that are vital to their existence. The king urged those whose livelihoods depend on activities detrimental to the environment to consider the long-term consequences and take action to preserve their resources.

This recognition serves as a testament to Dr. Ogbuku's contributions and impact in the community and further strengthens the bond between the NDDC and the people of Ogboin Clan. It is a significant recognition of his efforts and dedication to the development and welfare of the people of the region.

Responding to the honour bestowed on him, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku said that it was an expression of appreciation by his people and a mandate for him to do more in developing the Niger Delta region.

“I am confident that I will not fail to meet the expectations of the people. I know that you will support me to succeed.”

He reiterated the commitment of the Commission to complete all its ongoing development projects, including the Amassoma shoreline protection project in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

 Ogbuku assured the people that the NDDC would ensure that the project was diligently executed and completed, adding that the Commission was dedicated to advancing the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said that the NDDC was currently executing several projects in Amassoma, including roads and solar-powered street lights which had changed the nightlife in several communities across the Niger Delta region.

 He noted that the President had charged the Commission to complete and commission signature projects that would impact the lives of Niger Deltans, stressing that projects in the Niger Delta region would be given urgent attention.

Among the dignitaries who accompanied him to the event were the NDDC Board Chairman, Barr. Chiedu Ebie; NDDC Executive Director Projects, Sir Victor Antai; NDDC Executive Director Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedeayo Abegunde, the Obanema of Ayakoro HRH Righteous Inegbagha and Council of Chiefs, NDDC directors among dignitaries from all walks of life.
