Bayelsa State Govt Ordered Seflam Limited To Relocate Operations With Immediate Effect

Bayelsa State Government has ordered SEFLAM SGL Limited to stop all ongoing fabrication in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and relocate their operations to the state with immediate effect. 

 A statement by Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Mr. Peter Afagha and his Labour, Employment and Productivity counterpart, Mr. Odoko Omiloli says the directive was sequel to a petition filed against the company by the Bayelsa State Chapter of Fitters Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (FISSAN).

According to the statement, the State Provost of FISSAN, Mr Ikpaikpai Baramiegha, had petitioned SEFLAM SGL Limited over its decision to fabricate eighty percent of their steel pipes in Rivers State.

The statement notes that government in a meeting with SEFLAM SGL Ltd and FISSAN had maintained that all fabrication should be executed in Bayelsa state, and indigenes should be engaged as contained in the Local Content Law.

It says non-compliance with the directive will result to sanctions and legal action as deemed necessary under the law, noting that the Prosperity government remains committed to ensuring that companies in the state adhere to the provisions to foster economic growth and build local capacity.

The statement further notes that the state government will continue to take decisive action against any entity found violating the law to ensure that host communities and Bayelsans directly benefit from industrial activities taking place in their localities.
