Acting Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples' Democratic Party(PDP), Barr. George Turnah has described President Bola Tinubu, FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Supreme Court and the 27 suspended Pro-Wike  Rivers State House of Assembly members as "Heroes of Democracy" in 2025.

Also mentioned we're the embattled National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and the South-South zonal Vice Chairman of the Party, Dan Orbih as leaders who have exemplified courage, boldness, and unwavering commitment to deepening democratic principles.

He acknowledged the President as a beacon of Courage, noting that his  leadership style has been pivotal in defending democracy in the nation, especially Rivers State, just as he also affirmed that the country's leader was steadfast and courageous in the face of adversity.

In a statement made available to newsmen by his Media Aide, Pst. Kelvin Loveday-Egbo in commemoration of this year's 'Democracy Day' celebration, the party stalwart was quoted as emphasizing that President Tinubu's bold political will was essential in defending democracy in Rivers State, noting that it was also evidenced by the Supreme Court's declaration that the State was devoid of democratic governance at the heat of the political turbulence.

The Statement read in parts: ''President Tinubu's unwavering stance emphasizes the need for integrity in governance and serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with leadership.

"The Supreme Court of Nigeria has been the ultimate guardian of  the Justice system. The Supreme Court has continued to play very decisive role in upholding the integrity and independence of the judiciary in a democratic context with courageous determination.

"The Supreme Court in the Tinubu's Presidency has boldly confronted the undemocratic practices of some leaders in Nigeria. The Court's commitment to justice exemplifies the critical checks and balances that were vital for the health of Nigeria's democracy.

"The Court's assertiveness has set a precedent for the necessary accountability required from those in power.

"The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is a dogged fighter against impunity. Also noteworthy is the contribution of Minister's  relentless fight against undemocratic practices in the governance of Rivers State and within the Peoples Democratic Party.

"Wike’s efforts signify a battle for the hearts and minds of citizens who yearn for transparent governance. His actions demonstrate a commitment to restoring a sense of democratic integrity that has been challenged in recent times."

Turnah alleged that the suspended 27 Pro-Wike Rivers State House of Assembly Members were unyielding defenders of Democracy, adding that the Martins Amaewhule-led lawmakers were dogged and committed against impunity and undemocratic governance of Rivers State even at the expense of their welfare and wellbeing.

"The 27 suspended Pro-Wike House of Assembly members' fight for democratic values and practices in Rivers State reflects a powerful unity amongst legislators. It demonstrates their determination to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability in governance.

"For the PDP national Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and the South-South zonal Vice Chairman of our great Party, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, they're 'Champions of Resistance'.

"Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Chief Dan Osi Orbih played and have continued to play significant roles in opposing impunity and undemocratic practices from powerful figures within the Peoples Democratic Party.

"Senator Anyanwu's relentless fight against his undemocratic removal from office as National Secretary of the PDP saw him challenge this injustice all the way to the Supreme Court, while Chief Dan Osi Orbih was also battling against a cabal of governors' intent on hijacking the party structure in the South-South Zone through undemocratic means.

"Their courageous actions in the face of formidable opposition underscore their dedication to the principles of democracy.
