Amgbare leads courtesy visit to Nembe. *Secures Royal Support for $150 fishing industry

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Hon. Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, alongside his management team, paid a courtesy visit to the Amayanabo of Nembe Kingdom and Chairman of the South South Monarch Forum, His Royal Majesty, King Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, and members of his Council.

During the visit, Prince Amgbare explained that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, food security remains a top national priority, and as such, MDAs are encouraged to establish partnerships that will deliver impactful results. He highlighted that the NDBDA’s operational areas—Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States—are naturally endowed for fish and rice production, noting that Nigeria currently imports about 2 million tonnes of fish annually.

Amgbare revealed that the NDBDA has secured a $150 million partnership to develop a fishing industry in the Niger Delta. Following a thorough assessment of potential sites by NDBDA agents, Nembe was selected due to its strategic coastal location, easy ocean access, and the ongoing Nembe–Brass Road construction being undertaken by both the Bayelsa State Government and the Federal Government. He sought the King’s blessing and requested the nomination of Council members to interface with the NDBDA and its investors for smooth project execution.

In his response, King Daukoru warmly welcomed the NDBDA delegation and expressed delight over the choice of Nembe for such a transformative initiative. He described the project as a catalyst for food security, employment generation, and economic growth in Bayelsa and beyond. The monarch pledged full support for the success of the project, affirming that Nembe’s water conditions and geographical advantage make it an ideal site. He concluded by giving his royal blessing and approval, expressing optimism for a fruitful collaboration.
