Bayelsa Commissioner Assures Workers Improve Working Conditions

The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, has assured staff of the Ministry of improved working conditions in  2026.

Hon. Koku-Obiyai gave the assurance while speaking as the Special Guest at the end-of-year get-together organized by the Information Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Information House Yenagoa.

The Information Commissioner noted that although the outgoing year was very eventful and marked by several milestone achievements, the leadership of the Ministry is committed to doing even more in the coming year.

She disclosed that arrangements have been concluded to provide the Ministry with uninterrupted internet connectivity in 2026, adding that the state-owned television station would also be connected to a satellite service provider.

The Commissioner urged staff to always contribute their quota to the growth of the Ministry, recalling that during the year, the Ministry carried out physical renovation of offices, provided new furniture, and established an editing studio to improve the working environment and enhance productivity .

She further stated that the Ministry successfully trained the 82 newly employed staff posted to the Ministry to bridge the gap between  knowledge and practice.

Hon. Koku-Obiyai expressed appreciation to staff of the Ministry, especially the Directors, for their cooperation and dedication, which contributed to the successes recorded.

In goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ifiemeya Anthony Borisei, commended the Information Chapel for celebrating its achievements and wished the Union many more fruitful years ahead.

Similarly, the Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Mr. Tonye Yemoleigha, and a former Chairman of the NUJ, Mr. Seiyefa Uzaka, praised the Ministry's leadership and the Information Chapel for their efforts in capacity building. They encouraged staff to uphold professionalism, stressing that it remains the key to fulfillment in the journalism profession.

In a vote of thanks, the Director of the Department of Public Orientation and Enlightenment, Dr. Sophia Obi, appreciated all guests and participants for attending the event despite their tight schedules.

Highlights of the programme included the launch of the Chapel’s newsletter titled Info Connect, presentation of award to retired members as well as games and competitions.

A minute silence was also oberved in honour of the late Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjapo admist prayer for the repose of his soul
