Bayelsa HOS Urges Workers to Continually Express Unreserved Gratitude to God

The Head of Service, Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer, has urged civil servants in Bayelsa State to continually express unreserved gratitude to God for His mercy and love toward the state.

Dr. Sawyer gave the charge during the 2026 Civil Service Rededication Prayer Session, held at the car park of the Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat Complex, Yenagoa.

The Head of Service stated that God has remained central to the affairs of the Bayelsa Civil Service, particularly through the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of the State. 

According to him, the construction of the iconic nine-storey new Secretariat Complex, prompt payment of salaries, gratuities and pensions, arrears and appointments in the state among other projects reflect the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of civil servants and the people of the state.

The Head of Service who urged civil servants to work harmoniously with the government and remain thankful to God at all times, cautioned against murmuring or promotion of negative social media narratives against constituted authority, noting that such actions could attract disciplinary measures in line with civil service rules.

Dr. Sawyer described the rededication service as a remarkable experience, bringing together Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and civil servants to recommit themselves to God in service to humanity. 

He also commended the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for its consistent collaboration with the Civil Service in organizing the annual dedication service.

Delivering the sermon titled “Praising God, for His goodness” Rev. Shepherd Koko emphasized that thanksgiving and praise attract divine rewards.

 He noted that praising God has the power to positively transform circumstances, urging civil servants to remain prayerful and steadfast in praise.

In a remark, the Chairman of CAN, Rev. Father Joseph Opelema, commended the Civil Service for its consistency in dedicating its activities to God. 

Rev. Opelema commended the state governor for his love for civil servants and prayed for the construction of more housing, bonuses and promotions for civil servants.

He prayed for divine strength and wisdom for the Head of Service, his management team, and the entire Civil Service to successfully achieve the laudable goals of the government.

Highlights of the occasion was the observance of a one minute silence in honour of the late deputy governor and praise worship.

Other clergymen who offered prayers at the event included the PFN Chairman, Tam Seth Eyedeode, Bishop Doutimi Egbegi, and Pastor Wodu.
