APC Chieftain Endorses Senator Agadaga for second tenure

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nembe Local Government Area Ward 12, Mr Direala Omoh has endorsed the  Senator  Representing Bayelsa East, Senator Benson Sunday Agadaga for a second in office.

Mr Omoh in a chat with Global Overseer on  Monday, said, one tenure is not enough for a representative to actualize his vision for effective representation  to bring the desired dividends of democracy to the people.

Omoh who was the senatorial flagbearer of Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria ( GDPN), in 2019 general election, highlighted some of the benefits of second tenure to include improve legislative quality and Constituency development.

He added that a second term allows lawmakers to move past the " apprenticeship" phase and become more effective, often hitting the ground running from the first day.

According to him re-election grants members ranking status, which is recognized in the  House Standing Orders, of becoming chairs or vice -chairs, thus giving them greater influence over legislative decisions, and the ability to attract more projects to their constituencies.

He averred that second allows for policy continuity and projects completion as well as enhanced oversight functions, stressing that Senator Agadaga despite the fact, as a first timer has recorded significant achievements that deserves second tenure within this period in office.

He also endorsed the two tenure rotational zoning arrangement for the three local government areas that made up Bayelsa East Senatorial District to begin from Ogbia with Senator Benson Sunday Agadaga.

 It would be recalled that a communique was issued on March 31st, 2022 in support of his endorsement of Senator Agadaga for second tenure.

The communique read thus: "COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY BAYELSA EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT STAKEHOLDERS TO WIT; CONFIRMATION OF THE ZONING ARRANGEMENT FOR THE THREE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF BRASS, NEMBE AND OGBIA, HELD AT TOOLDA HOTEL, EKEKI, YENAGOA, BAYELSA STATE ON THE 31ST DAY OF MARCH, 2022.

WHEREAS

The Local Government Areas by understanding had a single term rotational system amongst themselves.

The democratic realities dictate that the single tenure is no longer beneficial to the district.

The need to be proactive in ensuring that the District amasses the benefits accruable from the National Assembly.

WHEREFORE the stakeholders unanimously agreed as follows:

 Commencing from the next election, every local government shall serve a maximum of two tenures beginning with Ogbia, Brass and Nembe Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State, respectively.

In the event of unsatisfactory performance and/or death of the Senator, the replacement can ONLY COME from the Local Government enjoying the current term. 

Where an occupant is privileged to hold the office of the Senate President or Deputy Senate President, such a person shall be allowed to continue. 

That the district must ensure that the local government MUST present a fit, competent and capable candidate to represent the District.
