The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the removal from office the Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Council, Alice Allen Tangi, and her Vice-chairman, Safade Jefferson Tobi over alleged gross misconduct.

The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Abraham Ingobere, made the declaration during Tuesday’s plenary session.

The Speaker said the resolution was reached after the House secured the required two-thirds majority and considered a petition against the local government chairman and vice-chairman.

According to him, the officials allegedly failed to honour several invitations extended to them by the House to respond to the allegations contained in the petition.

The decision, he said, was taken in accordance with Sections 24, subsections 6 and 7, of the Bayelsa State Local Government Administration Law, 2000.

The House also cited relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, alleging that the chairman and vice-chairman had underperformed in the discharge of their official responsibilities.

The Speaker said the resolution of the House would be formally communicated to the Bayelsa State Governor for necessary executive action.

The House maintained that, having secured the required two-thirds majority, the resolution satisfies the legal requirement for the Governor to act on the proposed removal of the Sagbama Local Government chairman and vice-chairman from office.
