PDP Senatorial Candidate Pledges to eradicate Poverty in Bàyelsa West when elected

By Austin Genesis

The  Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) Senatorial Candidate for Bàyelsa West, Dr Polycarp Onduakpo Ebebi has pledged to eradicate poverty in the  area when elected.

Dr Polycarp Onduakpo Ebebi

Dr Ebebi stated this in Yenagoa on Saturday while exchanging views with Global Overseer.

The PDP standard bearer described himself as the underdog to win the election, affirming that  nobody has known his dance step like the incumbent whose dance steps have been well known that he cannot dance beyond this if re-elected.

He said, his entry into the Senatorial race was borne out of his zeal to reduce the high level of poverty in the area through the utilisation of the abundant natural resources of the district to create sustainable wealth and jobs for the constituents.

" So, my idea is to stimulate the micro-economy of Sagbama/Ekeremor using available resources.

Because, the area is green waiting for labourers to harvest. We have palm trees in abundance rotten in the forest zone.

As you know, we are the highest producer of local gin. And we are bless with several creeks and rivers, yet we are very poor because they lack positive direction.

Ekeremor/Sagbama have the highest population of bees. These bees can be coordinated to produce honey by apicullture which they can produce honey three times a year.

As you know, honey is costlier than crude oil by 100 times.

So, my intention is to activate these resources, train constituents on how to use these resources create sustainable wealth and jobs for themselves," he affirmed.

For him as a Ph.D holder in Agriculture, he know about all natural resources available in the senatorial district.

Dr Ebebi

" I am not talking of Government allocation. These are things we can do practically to change our condition of life positively.

In the National Bureau of Statistics Poverty Index, Bàyelsa State rates number two, just behind Sokoto State; not minding the amount of money, allocation or whatever that comes into the state.  We are second in the ranking poverty index.

And when we come to Bàyelsa State, Sagbama/ Ekeremor are worse off, no industry, market almost everything we consume is from outside, including pure water, is supply from Delta state," he lamented.

The PDP Candidate bemoaned over poor representation, pointing out that, the member Representing Yenagoa/ Kolokuma/ Opokuma Federal Constituecy, Hon Oforji Oboku has open several eyes.

" He has been there for just three years. They should see what he has done, and what he had achieved within the three years, everybody shocked. He constructed a bridge across Epie Creek.

So, if that is possible, why my senatorial district left as it is?

Between Sagbama and Toru Orua, you see a lot of potholes. We have House of Representatives Member and a Senator, but the potholes are still there waiting Governor Douye Diri to come and fill.

These are things that I can simply do and walk away. Because, my going there is for public interest, and not personal gains; to amass wealth at the detriment of constituents.

Therefore, my actions to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the people will be lauder than my voice.

I will perform. I will make sacrifices because without sacrifice they will not see results," said Dr Ebebi.

He promised to be driven by the vision to uplift the senatorial district to a development pedestal that would make them independent, confidence and self-reliance through effective representation.

He said he will leave no stone unturned to enhance the growth and development of the district, adding that high priority will  be given to women and youth empowerment, Agricultural revolution, industrial development, Sports, education, commerce and health.

Dr Ebebi also vowed to build two constituency offices, one at Sagbama and Ekeremor respectively to have regular contact with his constituents, stating that he would hold regular town hall meetings all over the Senatorial District to have genuine discussion on the way forward of the area.

Also, he pledged to establish a market at the boundary between Sagbama and Ekeremor to boost commercial activities.

He called on the people of the area to give him their overwhelming support to realize the set goals.
