Rotary Club of Yenagoa Installs Dr Anderson as its 24th President

The Rotary Club of Yenagoa, on Saturday installed Rtn Dr. Dennis Anderson as its 24th President in an epoch making ceremony in the Bàyelsa state capital.

The investiture which took place at DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall attracted high profile personalities and Rotarians including the Wife of the Deputy Governor of Bàyelsa State, Dr. Favour Akpe, the Member Representing Sagbama Constituency, in the Bàyelsa State House of Assembly, Hon Chief Mrs Ebizi Ndiomu Brown, the Executive Secretary, Bàyelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board, Associate Prof. Michael Amaegberi, and Chairman of the Bàyelsa State Elders  Council (BSEC),High Chief Boma Spero-Jack.

Dr Dennis Anderson, who hails from Ogbolomabiri in Nembe local government area is married with three children.

Rotarian Dr Anderson is a technocrat that has distinguished himself in his chosen field as an astute administrator.

As Director of Administration in Bàyelsa State Government House, Dr Anderson has demonstrated a strong work ethic with qualities that have made positive impact in his establishment ensuring that all tasks are completed in the highest standard.

He is extremely detailed, focused, exceptionally skilled, and a committed leader and team player.

Dr Anderson, in line with Rotary vision, promised to operate under the theme, “Service with Purpose, impact with Compassion,” and also to strengthen membership, increasing participation and promoting greater contributions to the Rotary Foundation.

He disclosed six intervention projects targeting education, environmental sanitation, inclusion of children with special needs and peace-building as his intended milestone.

The projects include the remodelling and improvement of a special school vocational centre to provide a safer and more conducive environment for children living with special needs; provision of 100 wooden chairs and 200 school beds; installation of 20 peace poles; sponsorship of Four-Way Test and polio-branded advertisements for one year; and provision of 10 waste receptacles across Yenagoa.

According  to him, the projects were designed to address practical needs within the community rather than serve as mere promises, stressing that their success would depend on collaboration among Rotarians, government, businesses, philanthropists and other stakeholders.

"My vision for the Rotary Club of Yenagoa is simple but ambitious: to live with purpose, serve with compassion, unite our members and create lasting impact in our community. I want this administration to be remembered not merely for activities, but for visible, measurable and sustainable projects that improve lives," he stated.

He implored  corporate organisations, government agencies, philanthropists and individuals to support the projects financially and materially, saying community development required collective effort.

"Every contribution, whether big or small, will help us transform a life. I invite you to partner with us because when we give to Rotary, we are not simply funding projects; we are investing in humanity," Anderson said.

The President assured members that he would promote inclusiveness and teamwork during his tenure, describing the administration as a collective responsibility.

Speaking earlier, the outgoing president, Rotarian Stella Toruemi, said her administration, which operated under the theme “Unite for Good,” recorded achievements in maternal and child healthcare, environmental sanitation and community service.

She cited the club’s maternal and child care project at Igbedi and its waste receptacle remodelling initiative among the interventions carried out during her tenure.

She disclosed that the club could not execute a planned Water, Sanitation and Hygiene project because of inadequate funds, expressing confidence that the initiative could be revisited under the new administration.

She enjoined members to give Dr. Anderson the same support they gave her,expressing confidence in his ability to lead the club to greater achievements.

Chairman of the Installation Planning Committee, Rotarian Blessing Aye-Dikuro, described the occasion as a celebration of service, leadership and continuity, assuring the new president of the members’ support.

The investiture also featured the inauguration of a new Board of Directors, induction of new members, launch of the six service projects and presentation of awards and recognitions to deserving Rotarians and others.

The District Governor Rotary District 9141, Rtn Chibueze Anthony Olikagu presented the prestigious Award to the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Favour Akpe, in recognition of her "Excellence in Vocational Service."

The Rotary Club of Yenagoa deeply honoured to confer upon Her Excellency, Dr Favour Akpe the Award of " Excellence in Vocational Service."

In her acceptance speech, Dr Favour Akpe lauded the Rotary Club of Yenagoa for the honour accorded to her, and dedicated the Award to everyone who has supported and encouraged her in her journey of service.
