The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigari Misau, also expressed optimism that the party could secure more than 25 per cent of the presidential votes in Bauchi State for the Peter Obi-Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ticket, provided adequate funds were made available to implement its mobilisation strategies.
Misau disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Global Overseer Newspaper on Monday, where he discussed the party’s electoral ambitions, preparations for the 2027 polls, funding challenges and expectations for the presidential election.
Despite acknowledging the challenges associated with building a relatively new political platform, the NDC chairman maintained that the party was determined to compete with established political parties and secure victories in key constituencies across Bauchi State.
NDC Targets Senate, Reps and Assembly Seats
Misau said the party was expanding its political structures across Bauchi State and preparing its candidates to contest various elective positions in the forthcoming general election.
According to him, the NDC has fielded a candidate for the Bauchi Central Senatorial District seat and candidates in approximately 11 of the state's 12 federal constituencies for the House of Representatives election.
He expressed confidence in the party’s senatorial candidate, describing him as capable of representing the district effectively if elected.
“We have one senatorial candidate, and we are confident that he can win the election because he is competent and has the capacity to represent the district,” Misau said.
He also expressed optimism about the party’s House of Representatives candidates, saying he expected a substantial number of them to win their respective constituencies.
On the State House of Assembly election, the chairman disclosed that the party had between 10 and 15 candidates it considered capable of winning their seats.
However, he acknowledged that some candidates were experiencing difficulties in building the political support needed to secure victory in their constituencies.
“Although some of our candidates are doing well, others still have challenges in their constituencies. Nevertheless, we are doing our best to ensure that our candidates are adequately prepared for the election,” he said.
Misau also hope that the party will win the governorship in the state as part of its broader strategy to establish a stronger political presence of the party in the state.
Funding Remains Major Challenge
The NDC chairman identified inadequate funding as one of the major obstacles confronting the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
He explained that additional financial and moral support would strengthen campaign activities, improve grassroots mobilisation and enable candidates to reach more voters across their constituencies.
According to him, although the party was relatively new and faced challenges competing with established political organisations, it remained determined to overcome the obstacles and participate actively in the elections.
“Financial support is very important. If our candidates receive additional assistance, I believe they will be better positioned to carry out their campaigns and reach more voters,” Misau said.
He maintained that adequate resources would enable the party to implement its campaign strategies more effectively and improve its chances of securing electoral support across Bauchi State.
NDC Targets Over 25% of Presidential Votes for Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket
On the presidential election, Misau expressed optimism that the NDC could contribute more than 25 per cent of the votes in Bauchi State to the Peter Obi-Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ticket, provided the party received adequate funding to execute its planned mobilisation activities.
He said the party was working on strategies to mobilise voters and determine the level of support it could generate for the presidential candidates in the state.
“We are looking forward to mobilising votes for Peter Obi and Kwankwaso. We believe we can contribute meaningfully to their electoral support in Bauchi State,” he said.
The chairman added that improved financial assistance, effective campaign coordination and stronger grassroots engagement would be important to achieving the party’s target.
He stressed that the NDC remained committed to strengthening its organisational structures and mobilising support for its candidates at all levels of the 2027 general election.
Chairman Calls for Competent Leadership
Misau urged Nigerians to consider the knowledge, experience, vision and leadership capacity of candidates when making their choices in the 2027 general election.
He said the country needed leaders with clear development priorities and the commitment to address its economic challenges, promote sustainable growth and improve the living conditions of citizens.
According to him, political parties must also take responsibility for preparing their candidates for elections by providing effective organisational support, encouragement and the resources required for their campaigns.
“My message to Nigerians is that we should come together and support candidates who have the knowledge, capacity, vision and commitment to move the country forward,” he said.
He maintained that purposeful leadership and effective governance were essential to advancing Nigeria’s development aspirations and improving the welfare of its people.
Misau expressed confidence that the NDC’s continued efforts to expand its membership, strengthen its structures and support its candidates would help the party establish a stronger presence in Bauchi State.
NDC Chairman Tasks Media on Responsible Election Coverage
The NDC chairman also called on the media to uphold professionalism, accuracy, fairness and balance in reporting political activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
He urged journalists and media organisations to provide candidates and political parties with fair opportunities to communicate their programmes, policies and electoral promises to the public, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Misau said responsible media coverage was essential to ensuring that voters received credible information to guide their decisions during the electoral process.
“My message is that the media should perform its duties responsibly and ensure that political activities and candidates receive fair and balanced coverage,” he said.
He also appealed to Nigerians to maintain peace and demonstrate a collective commitment to credible elections.
“I also urge Nigerians to remain peaceful and committed to ensuring that the forthcoming elections are free, fair and credible,” he added.
The chairman expressed hope that cooperation among political parties, the media, electoral authorities and the electorate would contribute to peaceful elections and strengthen the country’s democratic institutions.
He thanked Global Overseer Newspaper for the opportunity to explain the NDC’s preparations, electoral ambitions and expectations ahead of the 2027 general election.
