Bayelsa SG calls for harmony, understanding during canalization of Obogoro River . Meets with Famgbe Community

 As plans have been put in place to address the continuing erosion menace devastating Obogoro community in Yenagoa local government area, the Bayelsa State Government has called for understanding during the canalization of the Obogoro river promised by the Prosperity Government.

 

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Iselema Gbaranbiri who gave the charge in a meeting with Famgbe Community leaders had said that the Prosperity Administration has concluded arrangements with experts on how to handle the project.

According to Mr. Gbaranbiri, the contractor has been mobilized by the Prosperity Government and work will commence in no distance time.

The project which would be supervised by the Ministry of Environment through the Commissioner when completed will in no small measure tackle the perennial erosion bedeviling the neighborhood, said the Environment Commissioner, and call on Famgbe community to handle the project as host.

Responding, the Paramount ruler of Famgbe Community, His Royal Highness F.D Lott, who received the visitors in company of his Council of Chiefs, the Community Development Chairman and other stakeholders promised a peaceful working environment and expressed delight and gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for sharing in the pain of his people, noting that the menace of erosion will be greatly reduced.

In attendance during the visit were, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Mr Waripamo Martin Amaitari, Director, Flood and Erosion, Mr Daniel Tenemene, Chief J.J Ogbara, Mr Ernest Jacob and Mr Velia Kulukulu, land owners amongst others.
