Sylva Wins APC Governorship Primaries in Bayelsa

Chief Timipre Sylva, immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under President Muhammandu Buhari’s administration, was on Saturday declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries held on Friday, in the 105 wards of the eight local government areas of Bayelsa state.

Sylva, a onetime governor of the state who governed the state from the year 2007 to 2012, defeated five other aspirants in the direct mode electoral system adopted to clinch the party’s ticket for the November 11 governorship election.

Announcing the result, at the party’s State Secretariat in Yenagoa, the chairman of the APC primary election committee for Bayelsa, Maj- Gen Ahmed Jibrin (retd.), said, Sylva polled a total of 52,061 votes to clinch the party's ticket.

According to the results declared, Joshua MacIver came second with 2, 078 votes, Chief David Lyon, third with 1, 872 votes, Prof. Ongoebi Etebu 1,277, Mrs Ikisima Ogbomade Johnson 584 and Festus Daumiebi 557.

The Election Committee chairman said “With this result, Timipre Sylva, having scored the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared as the winner”.

The Committee Chairman, after proclaiming the result proceeded to conduct an affirmation exercise with five ad-hoc delegates from each of the 105 wards to affirm the outcome of the exercise at the same venue.

Major General Jubrin also used the forum to thank all the stakeholders of the party, INEC, security agents, the press and others for their support to enhance successful conduct of a free and fair primaries.
