Caretaker Committee Inaugurated For Swali Community

The State Government has inaugurated a seven-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of Swali Community pending the resolution of issues surrounding the suspended paramount ruler.

Speaking during the inauguration at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Yenagoa, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule, said the primary mandate of the committee is to maintain peace, order, and stability in the community in this period when the paramount ruler is under suspension.

Chief Amule noted that the government is committed to ensuring continuous development at the grassroots, adding that there must be no leadership vacuum in Swali. 

The Commissioner charged the committee members to immediately begin work and align their activities with the state government’s agenda for community development and good governance.

The Commissioner urged them to discharge their duties with unity, fairness, and transparency, emphasizing that collaboration and mutual understanding were essential to achieving the government’s objectives for the community.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Council, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, encouraged the committee to be decisive, inclusive, and people-oriented in their deliberations. 

The Mayor stressed the importance of taking collective decisions that serve the best interest of Swali residents.

Hon. Ndiwari further highlighted the need to sustain peace and stability in the community, pointing out that a peaceful Swali would enhance economic growth, boost the state’s internally generated revenue and improve local tax collection especially as the community hosts the state’s largest market.

He also urged the committee to consider establishing a community vigilante group to strengthen security, assuring that the local government would provide the necessary logistics and equipment to support its operations.

In his acceptance remarks, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Chief Thankgod Timbiri, thanked the state government for its proactive measures in ensuring effective leadership in Swali. 

Chief Timbiri pledged to run an open, inclusive, and accountable administration that would carry all stakeholders along in decision-making.

He expressed appreciation to his colleagues for their confidence in his leadership, assuring that the committee would justify the trust reposed in them by the government.

Members of the committee include: Chief Thankgod Timbiri (Chairman), Chief Jonah Dankaba, Chief Joseph Dankaba, Chief Saturday Amos, Chief Thankgod Ogari, Chief Victor Jacob, and Chief Appah Giame.
