Information Commissioner Charges New Staff To Contribute To State Development

The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, has charged newly employed staff of the ministry  to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the state.

Hon. Koku-Obiyai gave the charge during her maiden meeting with the new employees at the Ministry’s auditorium in Ovom, Yenagoa.

The Commissioner explained that the recent employment exercise reflects the state government’s commitment to engaging more hands in the task of building a more efficient and result-oriented public service.

Hon. Koku-Obiyai, while describing the appointment as a rare privilege, urged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by Governor Douye Diri’s administration through selfless and dedicated service, noting that many qualified graduates are still out there seeking employment.

The Commissioner encouraged the new staff to uphold professionalism and integrity in their duties, emphasizing that there is dignity in labour. 

She further disclosed that the Ministry would soon organize in-house training sessions, particularly in Public Relations, to enhance staff capacity and performance.

Reiterating the Ministry’s vision, mission, and core values, the Commissioner stressed that there is no room for absenteeism, lateness, or truancy, urging the new entrants to be diligent, service-oriented, and conversant with the Public Service Rules.

In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ifiemeya Anthony Borisei, described the Ministry as the light and voice of government, and charged the new staff to uphold discipline, commitment, and professionalism in service delivery.

Also speaking, the Director of the Department of Strategy, Mr. Ade Bakare, briefed the new staff on the organizational structure of the Ministry, noting that it comprises seven departments with distinct functions in information management, strategy, Public Relations, and dissemination.
