Why massive support for Senator Agadaga's second-term bid

Ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives  Congress (APC) scheduled primaries for the 2027 general elections, the support for the second-term bid of the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Chief Benson Sunday Agadaga has increase geometrically.

Investigations carried out by Global Overseer in the three local government areas that constituted the senatorial district authoritatively reveal that the increase  of his support was not unconnected with his exceptional performance, impeccable character, outspokenness, his visionary leadership  and the importance he attached to public interest above his personal gains, adding to the realization of Bayelsa East stakeholders the need for two tenure rotation principle.

Our investigations further  revealed that the motive behind those peddling frivolous informations, propagandas and aimed to misinform the public against Senator Agadaga's rising political profile and unparalleled performance was due to fear of defeat.

The desperate political jobbers resorts to embarking on media campaign of blackmail and calumny, weaponizing social media using digital platforms for propaganda to create an illusion of unpopularity with the intention to achieve inordinate political motive, according to our findings.

Unnfortunately  their resort to"gutter slurs" and "emotional blackmail" to provoke a public reaction failed as stakeholders became aware of their plots as political gimmick and strategy.

Stakeholders ignore all those coordinated campaign to malign his reputation as a popular aspirant, turning his "quiet, consistent, and impactful service" into a subject of controversy.

Stakeholders posited that single tenure is outdated and disadvantageous, since the essence of effective representation is to deliver the dividends of democracy to the constituents, and  acting as a bridge between the stakeholders and the federal government, converting legislative power into tangible improvements in the lives of constituents, describing single tenure rotation as not enough to actualize effective representation.

The said two-term arrangement according to our investigations was a consensus reached by stakeholders of the Bayelsa East senatorial district on the 31st of March, 2022 before the 2023 general elections.

 And it was agreed that the new two-term arrangement should begin in Ogbia where one-term rotation arrangement started with late Senator Melford Okilo of blessed memory who initiated the rotation principle.

It would be recalled that Senator Agadaga, recently informed  his constituents to unanimously give him      the mandate in line with the afforesaid two tenure arrangement, declaring that one term in the Senate is not enough to deliver the desired development, stating emphatically that a second tenure would give him the capacity to do more and serve better.

The pace-setter, Senator Agadaga outlined some of his achievements but insisted that there is more to be done, stressing that the scale of development will increase greatly.

Even a former Senate President, Senator David Mark who served four terms, said recently that single term is not enough for Nigerian lawmakers, and he called for lawmakers to be given the chance to serve for more than four years.

The former Senate President made this call at the launch of the book " The Burden of Legislators in Nigeria," authored by a former senator, Effiong Bob, on Saturday, February 7, 2026 in Calabar, cross River State.

Senator Agadaga reel out some of his achievements. As of mid-2026, Senator Benson Sunday Agadaga, representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, has focused on infrastructure development in riverine communities, youth empowerment, and advocacy for the oil and gas sector,

 serving as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Oil and Gas Host Communities. He has initiated several constituency projects across Ogbia, Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas. 

Here are some of them  between 2023 and 2026: Infrastructure and Constituency Projects.

On Marine Transportation, he  facilitated the construction of boat landing jetties in several riverine communities to improve accessibility, including Ologoghe, Otuabula 1, and Akakumama (Okoroama) in Nembe LGA.

Telecommunications: he Initiated the establishment of I.H.S. telecommunication masts in Ogbia and Nembe LGAs to enhance network connectivity in rural areas.

Community Development, he installed solar-power street lights in Ologoghe community to improve security and support night-time activities. 

Public facilities, he constructed  a  multipurpose halls women development center in Ogbia town to serve as a hub for women's empowerment programmes and community events. He constructed Apparanbie town hall in (Brass),  a Town Hall in Opu Nembe, and a pavilion at Otakeme.

Roads and Sanitation: he Constructed internal concrete roads in Ogbia Town to provide alternative  access for students of the Bayelsa State College of Health Technology, Otuogidi in Ogbia LGA,  and a modern 8-room toilet facility with a solar-powered borehole at Ogbokiri Clan  (Akassa Kingdom) in Brass LGA.

As Chairman of Senate Committee on Oil and Gas Host Communities, he actively engages in finding solutions to issues affecting host communities.

Legislative Advocacy, he made a case for the dredging of the River Niger and its tributaries to curb flooding in Bayelsa State.

Senator Agadaga sponsored several bills in the 10th Senate, including the Border Communities Development Agency Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

He supported for State Police creation to decentralize security. 

On empowerment and Human Capital Development he provided educational grants and paid school fees for students within the Bayelsa East Senatorial District.

As parts of his welfare development agenda,  he provided financial support for house rent, burials, and weddings for constituents.

On devastating effects of ocean encroachment in his  senatorial district,   he sponsored a motion on the urgent need to address ocean encroachment threatening the Sangana and Odioma communities in Brass Local Government Area.

He also sponsored a motion calling for the extension of railway lines from Warri (Delta State) to Yenagoa (Bayelsa State), and from Itakpe (Kogi State) to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

This is not all, he also moved a motion to convert the Oloibiri Oil Well I in Otuogidi into an Air Force Base as well  as securing the inclusion of Brass, Nembe, and Southern Ijaw in Boarder Communities Development Commission.

Senator Agadaga' was also a co-sponsored of the bill to establish the South-South Development Commission, which has now been passed, and inaugurated—marking a significant milestone in regional development and resource management.

On Community Outreach and Empowerment Initiatives, he

 has carried out numerous outreach programs to directly impact the lives of constituents.

August 2023 – he supported the IDPs in Nembe LGA and distributed relief materials, and paid rent for displaced youths affected by communal crises.

On February 15, 2024, Senator Agadaga embarked on Constituency Empowerment programme and

Empowered constituents with deep freezers, sewing machines, grinding machines, laptops to create self reliance among bags of rice distributed.

September 2024, he embarked on Agricultural Support programme including the distribution of fertilizers to farmers across the district to boost agricultural productivity.

October 19, 2024, he carried out Fisheries Support by providing agricultural equipments, including fiber boats, fishing nets, hooks, fish feeds, and fingerlings to fish farmers.

October 29, 2024,  he facilitated the delivery of Ocean Surge palliatives through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for victims of ocean surge in Brass LGA.

January 25, 2025, Senator Agadaga provided educational  grants to students across the district to support their academic pursuits.

Health Intervention:

he supported the payment of medical bills for constituents in need of urgent healthcare.

Further on youth Empowerment,

the senator facilitated the issuance of recommendation letters to deserving sons and daughters of Bayelsa East, and supported the employment of qualified constituents into federal institutions. 

He also helped the youths secure both local and foreign scholarships, in line with the Federal Character principle to qualified sons and daughters of the senatorial district.

The senator also constructed concrete Road in Opu -Nembe

to improve internal mobility and ease access within the community.

He reaffirmed his commitment to a proactive legislative agenda, impactful outreach programs, and transformative infrastructure projects to the growth and well-being of Bayelsa East Senatorial District and it's constituents.

Owing to Senator Agadaga's laudable performance and landmark achievements, stakeholders warned those fanning embers of disunity by carry out media campaign of blackmail and calumny, and  frivolous propaganda aimed at bringing the high performance of the Senator Agadaga low with the intent to achieve  inordinate political ambition for their egocentric gains at the detriment of constituents to desist forthwith.

Stakeholders also posited that in assessing the performance of a senator, critics must take into consideration the functions of the Nigeria senate before arriving it's stance,

 asserting that 

Senator Agadaga has actualize his statutory responsibilities as a senator.

The Senate, often referred to as the Upper Chamber or Red Chamber in Nigeria's bicameral legislature, serves as the highest lawmaking institution in the country. Its primary duties are centered on lawmaking, representation, oversight, and confirmation of appointments. 

The Senate is vested with the power to make laws for the peace, order, and good governance of the Federation.

Representation: Senators represent the interests, yearnings, and well-being of their respective senatorial districts.

Oversight Function: The Senate oversees public institutions and officials, conducting investigations and holding public hearings to ensure accountability and probity in governance.

Confirmation of Appointments: The Senate confirms the President’s nominations for key positions, including cabinet members (Ministers), high-ranking federal judges (including Supreme Court Justices), ambassadors, and members of national commissions.

Ratification of Treaties: The Senate must consent to treaties entered into by the country with foreign governments.

Impeachment Powers: The Senate is tasked with trying impeachments of the President, Vice President, and other top government officials. 

Other Key Functions:-

Budget Oversight: The Senate investigates the implementation of annual budgets by executive departments. Constituency Development: Senators are expected to facilitate projects like schools, roads, and healthcare centers to ensure federal presence is felt in their communities.

Mediation: The Senate intervenes in industrial disputes and crises to maintain national stability.

It is commendable state emphatically that Senator Agadaga, one of the regular Senators in National Assembly has actualize his statutory duties as a  senator.

He participates in all  activities and programmes both inside and outside the Red Chamber.

Obviously, Senator Benson Sunday Agadaga has perform creditably well that deserves the encouragement and total support of all for continuity to foster peace, unity and bring the desired dividends of effective representation for the constituency, and enhance the socio-economic and political well being of the constituents.

 It was due to his outstanding performance in the Senate, he was conferred with a prestigious award of honour as the " Oil and Gas Legislator ot the Year" at 2025 Niger Delta Oil and Gas Summit in Calabar, in recognition of his commitment to sustainable legislation in the sector.
