Works Commissioner Reaffirms Partnership with FRSC on Road Safety

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, ESV Moses Teibowei, has reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in ensuring safer roads and reducing accidents across the state.

ESV Teibowei gave the assurance while receiving the newly deployed Sector Commander of the FRSC, Bayelsa State Command, Corps Commander Abosi Prince, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to his office in Yenagoa.

The Commissioner noted that the present administration has prioritized the delivery of modern road infrastructure designed and executed in line with global safety standards. 

ESV Teibowei emphasized that the provision of road signage remains an essential component of every government project to guide commuters and guarantee overall road safety.

Describing the FRSC as a valuable partner in progress, he commended the Corps for its consistent interventions aimed at promoting responsible driving culture and reducing road mishaps.

The Commissioner stated that the Ministry is open to strengthened collaboration with the FRSC through initiatives such as joint interface and road audits, as well as technical advisory engagements involving professional engineers on ongoing and completed road projects undertaken by the state.

He further acknowledged the role of the FRSC in signage production, assuring that the Ministry would continue to work closely with the Corps to ensure adequate signage is deployed at strategic locations across the state.

Highlighting the state government’s transformational strides in road development, the Commissioner said Governor Douye Diri is setting a benchmark for future administrations. He listed some ongoing landmark projects including the Yenagoa-Oporoma Road, Glory Drive Phase 3, Agbura/Oxbow Lake Road, multiple dual carriageways within the New Yenagoa City GRA, and the East-West-Kalama Road, adding that rehabilitation works on failed and dilapidated sections of existing roads have commenced.

Earlier in his remarks, Corps Commander Abosi Prince explained that the visit was aimed at renewing and strengthening FRSC’s safety partnership with the Ministry. 

He noted that one of the Corps’ key statutory responsibilities is to provide recommendations to government and contractors before, during, and after road construction to ensure maximum safety compliance.

He also pointed out FRSC’s responsibility in the production and installation of road signage to guide motorists and other road users. Corps Commander Prince further called for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection connecting Glory Drive Phases 2 and 3 along the Airport Road to improve traffic management and reduce risks in that axis.
